A Perfect Day on the Western Cape

As I am sitting here freezing in Jozi, I thought this might be a good time to write a bit about some warmer days or rather, my trip to Cape Town last month. I was fortunate to get sent down for work to attend WTM Africa, so I decided to go a day early and stay a day after to get a in little play-time as well.

This was not my first time to Cape Town but my first visit since moving to South Africa and because I had already done many of the touristy things, I didn’t plan a single thing. I was just looking forward to being in and around Cape Town, wherever my days would take me.

I had flown in late the night before and woke up to some gorgeous views from our 6th floor balcony in the heart of Sea Point. I really enjoy this neighborhood and have stayed here on each of 4 visits to Cape Town. I probably should branch out one of these times but then why mess with such a good thing ?

A Bit of Gemütlichkeit In Jozi

Gemütlichkeit is a German word that can be a bit difficult to translate. It is often described as a feeling of friendliness, comfort and coziness and we recently got to experience this right here in Jozi.

On May 24, 2014, the German International School in Joburg held its 107th annual Schulbasar (School basar) and we were lucky to be invited to tag along with some German friends of ours.

Restaurant Review: Arirang Korean Restaurant (or the Kimchi that Kicked my Butt)

A couple of Saturdays ago we were searching for a lunch venue and wanted to try something a bit different than our usual salad/sandwich fare and we came across Arirang Korean Restaurant. It had been a really long time since we had Korean food so we jumped in the Jeep and off we headed to Rivonia.

Lusito Land Festival-Celebrating Portuguese Culture and Tradition in Jozi

At the end of April there is a large festival held here in Joburg called the Lusito Land Festival. There is a big Portuguese influence here in South Africa and this festival celebrates the culture and tradition of the Portuguese. I really love the diversity here in South Africa and I was really happy we got the chance to attend this last month.

Maboneng Precinct and Market on Main

In my last post about our walk in Kensington, I mentioned that the Fun Seekers Meetup Group then proceeded to the Maboneng Precinct for lunch at Market on Main. Maboneng is a rejuvenated inner city neighborhood of Johannesburg, just to the east of the CBD (Central Business District). It is considered to be a young and hip area with a whole host of restaurants, bars, art (both galleries and street) and many unique shopping boutiques. The Market on Main is part of Arts on Main and is held every Sunday from 10am-3pm (there is also a Night Market on the 1st Thursday of the month). Market on Main has been on my Must-Do list since we arrived in Jozi 6 months ago and I was excited to finally get the chance to check this out.
